The Freethinkers of Portland State University is a student run organization that serves students and the community by:
-Providing a supportive atmosphere and a forum for open discussion among atheists, agnostics, and students who are unsure about religion
-Providing visibility and a public voice for non-religious students on campus
-Educating students about non-religious viewpoints and dispeling myths about atheism through publications, multimedia, speaking engagements, and public service
-Sponsoring outreach events to foster understanding between religious and non-religious students (e.g., view and discuss films with religious or atheist messages)
-Promoting critical thinking and science education on campus
If there is a student who feels that the religious tradition she is dedicated to is consistent with these values, can she become a member of your group?
Out of curiosity, what religious tradition might that be?
Greetings!
I represent the famous atheist, author, blogger and public speaker John W. Loftus, and I was wondering if you would be interested in retaining him for a speaking engagement to your group. John is a highly educated former preacher turned atheist, and has published 2 books, Why I Became an Atheist, and The Christian Delusion: Why Faith Fails, and has two more books scheduled for release soon. John speaks to groups and organizations across the country, and is highly regarded in the Atheist community. His blog, http://www.debunkingchristianity.blogspot.com/ is ranked in the top 5 of all atheist/theist blogs on the internet today. John is a very entertaining and interesting individual, and can create a speech that would suit your needs on any topic that would interest you and your group. Here is a link to a very successful event John recently attended in Riverside, California. http://www.meetup.com/InlandEmpireAtheists/events/15795377/ Feel free to contact me for any questions you may have regarding this matter.
Sincerely
Matt Hensley
